Central Rectangle

Leather is a natural material and hence not available in rolls like other fabrics. The external contours of the animal skin are irregular. Leather is measured and calculated in square feet (sq. ft.), square metres (m²) or square decimetres (dm²).

We, as Leather Crafters, has always wanted to know the measure of the central rectangle on the skin to realize if the selected hide fit our pattern.

"Central Rectangle" is the biggest height and width of the hide maintaining four right angles.

The image below is an example to understand the "Central Rectangle" idea. Here you see a full calfskin hide with of 16 square feet with a Central Rectangle of 85x65 cm.

This measure is done with informative purpose and manually so even if we always do our best we thank you for don't expect millimeter precision.
